PbS CANdots® Quantum Dot

CANdots® PbS-based fluorescent semiconductor 3 – 8 nm nanocrystals, with emission maximum 1000 – 1600 nm (NIR/IR range), suitable for LED

Due to size quantization effects, nanoscopic lead sulfide has band gaps up to 1.3 eV (analogous to an absorption maximum of 950 nm). As a comparison, microscopic PbS has a band gap of 0.37 eV (analogous to a wavelength of 3300 nm). For this reason, nanosized lead sulfide is widely used in optoelectronics.

CANdots® PbS based QD particles vary in size between 3 and 8 nm. The band gap is tunable between 0.8 and 1.3 eV, which corresponds to an absorption maximum between 950 and 1550 nm.  PbS nanoparticles with these particle sizes are able to absorb wavelengths below 950nm, which covers the whole visible spectra region (violet to red from 380 to 750 nm) – therefore able to collect or harvest sunlight.

CANdots® PbS are suitable for material science applications due to their solubility in non-polar organic media (toluene, hexane or chloroform). These nanocrystals are preferred as absorbents for QD solar cells, detector systems and solid state lighting (LED).
